Seville Cathedral: Inside the Church
Vaulting inside the Church

Inside, Seville Cathedral has a nave whicch is higher than the four aisles. The highest point of the Cathedral lies in that part of the crossing where the caved-in lantern used to be. This vault reaches a height of 40m. Slender pillars supporting pointed arches line the nine sections of the ground plan; above there are simple cross vaults except for those of the transept mentioned above which has magnificent stellar vaultings belonging to the final stages of the Gothic style. The only other noteworthy fact is that the central vault of this crossing was as from 1888 after the collapse of the lantern in that year.

The interior ground plan is rectangular with a flat east end and an ambulatory. It is 116m long and 76m wide. In the aisles there are chapels between the buttresses.

The inside of the Cathedral is lit by an exceptional series of stained-glass windows. Most pf them were basically made in the 16C bt famous masters such as Enrique Alemán, Carlos de Brujas, Arnao de Flandes and Arnao de Vergara.

Since by the beginning of this century the stained-glass windows were in rather a poor state, they were completely restored in 1930.
