This altar stands inside a small chapel framed by a Gothic gable. At the front there is a painting of The Guardian Angel by Bartolomé Esteban Murillo. It was originally painted for the Convent of the Capuchins in Seville and dates from around 1665. It was donated to the Cathedral in 1814.
The painting is an example of Murillo`s art at its best as regards the mastery of drawing through which he has managed to give the figure of the Angel an expression of firmness and asurance and at the same time an atmosphere of friendliness and confidence.
